Fabulous Duets was created in 2014 by Elaine Korman (pianist), Maria Danishvar (soprano) and Arabella Heaton (mezzo-soprano) as an ensemble to bring some of the best duets from opera and shows to the wider audiences through doing concerts in churches, restaurants, pubs and at music festivals. We also sing at weddings and special events and Arabella and I have recently performed together in a concert performance of "Carmen" as Carmen and Michaela.
Elaine was born in Alberta, Canada and studied in Vancouver and Toronto, obtaining her degree of ARCT and then went on to Los Angeles to study accompaniment with Gwendolen Koldofsky (accompanist of Lotte Lehman). She was resident accompanist at the University of Southern California working with, amongst others, Marilyn Horne. Then Elaine came to London for advanced study with Rex Stephens and Harold Craxton, gaining the LRAM diploma. Elaine was pianist to the Opera Ballet at Covent Garden until she went to Vancouver to coach Chamber opera and opera training school. She returned to England to become resident at the ENO and since moving to Dorset in 1986 she has worked with Dorset opera and many local groups such as Sturminster Newton Choral society, Mere Choral and Wincanton Festival. She also gives private singing coaching and teaches piano.
Arabella trained at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, studying with Penny Mackay, Johanna Peters and Ian Kennedy and having coaching with Liz Marcus, then at The Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama on the postgraduate opera course. She has studied with Dinah Harris and also Colin Baldy. She continues to study singing with Melanie Armitstead and to have coaching with Elaine Korman. She made her debut at Grange Park Opera singing Barbarina in Figaro's Wedding which she also sang for Pimlico Opera.
She has sung with various other opera companies including Opera Live Cosi Fan Tutte (Dorabella), Third Theatre Carmen (Micaela), Armonico Consort The Magic Flute (Papagena) and was also a chorister in various Raymond Gubbay opera productions at the Royal Albert Hall. She sang Polly Peacham for Pimlico Opera in a production of The Threepenny Opera in conjunction with Downview Prison and subsequently with Winchester Prison. She has also given workshops in Winchester Prison.
She has given concerts throughout England and now sings regularly with Musica da Camera and as part of the ensemble, Fabulous Duets, singing with the soprano, Maria Danishvar and pianist Elaine Korman. She has sung as a soloist for various local groups including Wincanton Choral Society, singing most recently in a concert version of Carmen (Carmen) and the same role for Durweston Choral Society. Arabella lives in north Dorset with her husband Tim and teaches singing at Sherborne Girls.
